Bureau of Aging Services

COVID-19

While the Bureau of Aging Services has cancelled its congregate dining and other onsite programs during the COVID-19 pandemic, existing clients will receive regular wellness telephone calls from staff. Existing clients may also elect to transfer to the county's home-delivered meal program until the congregate dining program is restored. For new clients, we currently have a waiting list for the home-delivered meals program due to high demand. For more information, call 843-325-6716.

Sel Hemingway, project field director with Congressman Tom Rice's office, dropped of a $4,000 check to Georgetown County's meals on wheels program April 20 on the congressman's behalf. The funds are much needed, said Beth Goodale, department director for the Georgetown County Bureau of Aging Services (BOAS). In the five weeks since the County declared a State of Emergency due to COVID-19, demand for BOAS' home-delivered meals program for senior citizens has grown significantly. BOAS currently has a waiting list of about 40 and continues to receive new requests. "We'll definitely be able to put these funds to good use," Goodale said. We thank Congressman Rice for his generous contribution, and we also thank our BOAS staff members who are making the home-delivered meals program possible during this difficult time.
