Georgetown County Judicial Center
Facility Information
Site work for the judicial center began in late July 2007. This 80,000 square foot, 3 story structure houses the following offices:
- 1 large main courtroom
- 1 medium courtroom
- 1 non jury courtroom
- 1 Master in Equity / Probate courtroom
- 2 Family courtrooms
- 1 Jury assembly / meeting room
- Grand jury room
- Clerk of Court Administration
- Family Courth Administration
- Solicitor offices
- Circuit Court Judges and staff
- Family Court Judges and staff
- Probate Court Judges and staff
- Office for Court of Appeals Judge
- Secure areas for detainees
The new facility was designed to feature a variety of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) features including:
- 40% of parking - pervious concrete
- Storm water system designed to maintain a large percentage of storm water on site
- Planting areas between parking areas are bio-swales
- 20,000 gallon cistern to collect rainwater from roof will be used to irrigate plantings
- Occupancy / CO2 sensors and controllable systems
- Reuse & Recycling of demolition materials
- Recycled content products to be utilized in construction
- Low emitting materials
GEORGETOWN COUNTY JUDICIAL CENTER GROUNDBREAKING HELD
On August 10, 2007 over 125 individuals braved 100 degree heat to celebrate the groundbreaking of Georgetown County's new Judicial Center. This state-of-the art 79,300 square foot, 19.5 million dollar facility will house all court related functions upon completion in early 2009.
Georgetown County has not built a courthouse facility since the 1840's when the County's historic Robert Mills designed facility was constructed.

The new facility was designed by Michael Walker of Tych & Walker Architects of Murrells Inlet, SC.
General Contractor is M.B. Kahn Construction Co. Inc. of Conway, SC.


JUDICIAL CENTER OPENS FOR BUSINESS
All staff moves into the new judicial center facility have been completed and the facility opened for business on July 1, 2009. Plans for dedication of the building are underway and a date will be announced by the Clerk of Court.
