Functions Relating to New Businesses: | The Zoning Division reviews all plans for new businesses and changes to existing businesses to assure compliance with the County Zoning Ordinance. This ordinance includes the following;
- Establishes uses allowed in specific zoning districts.
- Parking requirements.
- Landscaping requirements.
- Tree protection regulations.
- Signage regulations. |
Frequently Asked Questions: | Q: Can I locate my business at a specific location?
A: The majority of the County is zoned. Please check with the County’s Zoning Division located at 120 Broad Street to determine what regulations apply to your specific property. The zoning telephone number is (843) 545-3116.
Q: Can I cut trees from my property?
A: The County’s Tree Protection Ordinance applies to all zoned property in the County. Trees above a certain size are protected, with the exception of pine trees.
Q: Do I need approval to erect a sign?
A: A sign permit is generally needed before a sign is erected. A permit may be applied for at the Zoning Division located at 120 Broad Street in Georgetown.
Q: Do I have to pay a business license fee?
A: Georgetown County has not adopted a business license ordinance. All contractors and subcontractors, however, must register with the county which includes a fee. A local hospitality and accommodations tax does apply to all lodging establishments and businesses with prepared food. |
